Jim Gelling stated that he checked with Full Circle Ag. if the approximately 130 gals. of fuel that is in the clubs tank located at Ken Ham’s, is still good or if we need to put some additives in it. Was told that it would still be good for this winter. Hopefully if we get snow and start grooming we will have new fuel added to it.

Charity report. Talked about having a poker run and donating part of the proceeds to a charity.

Publicity report. Have been in contact with Andrew Johnson with the American News about putting an article in the paper on our snowmobile club and our trail. Have tentatively set the date of Thurs. Jan. 15th. at 1pm to meet with a representative of the American News to take some pictures of the groomer and to put together an article.

Activities and Trail rides. Discussed the upcoming trail rides, radar run and steak feed. Tracy Olson suggested that for the Sat. Feb. 7th. trail ride to Frederick we have a poker run to Frederick followed by a chili feed.  Participants would be required to make stops at Wakeside, Richmond Oasis, Anchors Away, and The Shed to get their card stamped. With the drawing for the winning hand in Frederick. This way if we still don’t have enough snow to ride snowmobile people could participate in their vehicles. Duane Sutton made a motion to donate part of the winnings to the Make A Wish Foundation, seconded by Jenny Johnson, motion approved. Jim Friedt will be checking with our insurance carrier to see if we need any additional coverage. Discussed having prizes at the radar run and decided to table it until next month.

News article, Jim and Kelly Weaver will do the news article for the next Sno Plainsman.

Old business, Discussion was held on having our own paypal account for people who want to pay their dues on line, but because only 4 people from our club paid on line this year the extra cost to the club for our own paypal account would not be feasible. Jim Friedt stated that the checks he sends to SDSA for their portion of the membership dues we collect are not being cashed on a timely manner. He stated that he currently has 3 checks that have not been cashed dated ll/14/14, 12/03/14, and 12/18/14. His concern is are our members being recognized in the system and receiving their Sno Plainsman. He stated he sent an email to Mary Ann Grabow asking how we can resolve this problem. Ann Nagel stated that she would also send a message to the SDSA board making them aware of this problem.

New business, Discussion was held on the 2016 convention. The contract has been signed and returned. Discussion was held on entertainment.

It was decided that anyone going to the Governor’s ride would meet Sat. morning at Rec. Springs or Trailshead.

Next meeting is Thurs. Feb. 5th. at 7:30 pm at the Pizza Ranch.

Motion to adjourn by Al Nagel, seconded by Jim Weaver, motion approved, meeting adjourned.

James Gelling, Pres.

January 2015 Newsletter

Driftbusters January News Letter

Hello Everyone, I can’t believe it is 2015 and we still don’t have enough snow to ride. Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.

The groomer is all repaired and is hooked up to the drag and is ready to go as soon as we get enough snow to groom. I can’t believe Mother Nature has forgotten to give us enough snow to groom our trail 2 years in a row.

The Black Hills ended up with a lot of snow for Christmas weekend and all reports are that the trails are in great shape. So if we don’t get any more snow here at least we can look forward to our club ride in the Hills the last weekend in January.  I believe there are still a couple of rooms left at Rec. Springs for anyone that wants to join us. Just click on club ride in the Hills on our Driftbusters web site for more information. The Snocross races will also be taking place that weekend in Deadwood so it should be a fun weekend.

We have made another change to the signing of our snowmobile trail. As you know we did away with the 3 chevrons that we have used in the past and replaced them with one directional arrow preceded by a slow sign. We have now added a stay on shoulder sign to the directional arrow sign, so when you see a directional arrow sign with a stay on shoulder sign below it that is telling you that you need to go up on the shoulder of the road and proceed until you get past the hazard, such as a large culvert, railroad tracks, bridge, etc. All other directional arrows preceded by a slow sign will be telling you that you have to change directions.

At the last meeting dates were chosen for club rides and events through the month of February. All trail rides will start at 1 pm and if the temperature is 0 or above.

Sat. Jan. 3 leaving Aberdeen at north softball complex

Sat. Jan. 10 leaving Richmond Oasis

Sunday Jan 18 leaving the Wakeside at Mina

Sat. Jan. 24 leaving The Shed in Westport

Last weekend in Jan. is the club ride from Rec. Springs in the Black Hills

Sat. Feb. 7 trail ride to Frederick followed by a chili feed.

The weekend of Feb. 14th is the Governor’s Ride in the Black Hills

Sat. Feb. 21 will be the radar run at the Richmond Oasis from 1pm to 4pm followed by the steak feed for club members at 5:30pm

The last weekend in Feb. discussed going over and riding the Sisseton and Webster trails.

For all new members don’t forget to come to a meeting and get your 2 free buffet meals.

REMEMBER for every club member that signs up 5 or more new members you will get a free buffet meal a month for a year. We need everyone’s help to get the trophy back for the largest club next year. Thanks to the Pizza Ranch for this promotion.

We are still open to ideas for the theme and the entertainment for the 2016 SDSA convention in Aberdeen.

For those of you who have not paid your dues please do so as soon as possible.

Hope to see you at our next meeting on Jan. 8 at 7:30 pm at the Pizza Ranch.

James Gelling, Pres.
