DRIFTBUSTERS DECEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER

Hello Everyone,

The 2014 SDSA State Snowmobile Convention in Deadwood was a great success. It was well represented by all the snowmobile clubs in the state. Thank you to all the members of the Driftbusters that attended. We were well represented. We were told that we lost the trophy for the largest club by one membership. So I challenge every member to work harder to sign up new members so we can bring the trophy back to Aberdeen next year. Duane Sutton was nominated for National Hall of Fame.

The Driftbusters have won the bid for the 2016 SDSA State Snowmobile Convention. The next 2 years will be busy planning for the convention. We will need a lot of volunteers to help with this project. A big thank you to Duane Sutton for bringing back the SDSA trailer with the simulator in it for our safety course.

The safety course was held Nov. 23rd. at the new location. The Primrose gym worked out great for this. Corey had 6 people who participated and 5 of them were 12 and older to be certified and will be receiving their certificate from the state. Thank you to Wanda Gelling for bringing homemade cookies as they all enjoyed them. Thanks to Corey and Kate for the chips, beverages, and snacks.

The snowmobile trail is all marked and waiting for Becky Graff, with the Game, Fish, and Parks, to inspect it and tell us if we need to make any changes. If we get snow and the inspection has been completed and the changes done, we can start grooming Dec. 1st. so think lots of SNOW!!!!!!! The groomer is scheduled to be serviced this week and will be ready to start grooming.

There are still a few rooms available at Rec. Springs for the club ride the last weekend in Jan. so anyone needing a room can do so by getting on the Driftbusters web site and clicking on Jan. Club Ride in the Hills.

We will be discussing plans for trail rides, fund raisers, and other fun activities at our Dec. meeting so please be sure and attend. We need all the young members to please come forward and present your ideas so we can plan new events.

To all members and businesses who have paid your dues a big thank you. Without your support we would not be able to have a club.

Next meeting is Dec. 4th. at 7:30pm in the back room of the Pizza Ranch.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

April 2014 Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

James Gelling PresidentSpring is finally here which brings us to an end of a very disappointing snowmobile season. Mother Nature just wasn’t very cooperative this year to give us enough snow to ride locally, hopefully she will be kinder to us next year. We had such high hopes this year of being able to use our new snowmobile groomer , check out the new route to Mina. and to show off our new signs along the snowmobile trail. At least the Black Hills had a very good year so we didn’t have to travel very far to go snowmobiling. .. So now time has come to get out our summer toys and spend a summer enjoying the outdoors . Just a reminder that May 1st. is the deadline to get all our trail signs removed.

We will be having our pizza/swim party Sunday April 6, at the AmericInn, which is located on the east side of the Lakewood Mall, swimming starts at 1pm and the pizza will be served at 5pm. If you plan on attending please let Glenn Imberi know ahead of time so he can order enough pizza’s. His cell number is 380-3829.

It was decided at the last meeting that we would have an unofficial spring campout at the Richmond State Park campground the weekend of May 16-17 which is the free state park camping weekend. Everyone is responsible for making their own reservations if you want to participate.

Our annual fall campout and membership drive will be at Wylie Campground Sept.12-13, 2014. Camp sites 61-68, 77-81, & 87-89 have been reserved for the Driftbusters members. You need to call 605-626-3512 and ask for Vicki to reserve your camp site and be sure and tell her you are a Driftbuster member. We will be basically following the same agenda we have in the past several years. The go-karts have been reserved for Sat. evening from 7:30-9:30 pm. More details will be posted on our web site this summer.

Our last meeting of the season is Thursday, April 3rd. at the Pizza Ranch at 7:30 pm. We will be voting on the election of new officers and 2 board members. So please be sure and attend and .volunteer for one of these positions. I would also like to remind all the new members that were signed up this year that this will be your last chance to get your free buffet meal. Just come early to the back room to get your free certificate . .Congratulations to Dan Rohbach for signing up the most new members. He will be getting a certificate for a free pizza a month for a year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for giving me the chance to be your club president for this past year. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. The Driftbusters is a great club to be a part of.

Setting Up For Radar Run

Setting Up For Radar Run

Well I do not know if this month could get any better since we now have snow on the ground and all of our work that we put into the trail is paying off.

To go along with the above mentioned out in the Black Hills there are and will be several reroutes this year as the forestry department keeps working on the pine beetle issues that are going on in the hills.  If you go to the GFP web site and click on trail conditions they will have several new interactive live footage and maps of the trail.

Corey Gelling was the instructor for the safety course again this year and he had 5 people take the class and they all passed.  Corey stated that he is waiting for the signed certificates to come back from the State and he will get them to the participants of the course.

The club is in need of a new treasurer if you are interested in this position and would like some more information on the position please feel free to contact me, Jeff Thorne at 229-2223 or 216-1939.

Well it is December so I hope that everyone is almost ready for the Holidays (Christmas/New Years) since they are just a week away.  I wish each and everyone a Happy Holiday season and a Happy New Year.

The club will be hosting a radar run January 5th. at the Richmond Oasis from 1pm to 4pm.  The price for the radar run will be $5.00 for 3 passes and all the proceeds will be donated to a charity of our choice.  Following the radar run there will be a steak feed starting at 6pm. The club will furnish the steaks.  See you there.

Our next club meeting will be at the Pizza Ranch on January 3rd. at 7:30 pm.
If you have not paid your dues please do so before Dec. 31 so you can continue to get the SnoPlainsman and join our activities.

Snowmobile Club Wrap-up 2011-2012

Aberdeen Driftbusters’ Newsletter
April 2012

Thank you to all who have come to the meetings and events this past year.  I know how hard it can be to stay committed to this sport when there is no snow outside.  Your support and participation is greatly appreciated.

snowmobile trail groomer

Jim weaver and Sunny Pence look over the groomer for the Dakota Midland Trail manged by the Driftbusters Snowmobile Club.

Thank you to Jim Weaver for all of his time and commitment as Trail Boss! And thank you to all of the trail leaders and volunteers.  It is your volunteer help and commitment that makes the Dakota Midland Trail a reality.  Trail signs have been or are in the process of being pulled.  Thank you!

Your new board of directors following the election at the March meeting is as follows: President – Jeff Thorne, President Elect – James M. (Mike) Gelling, Past President – Sunny Pence, Treasurer – Sharmie Jensen, Secretary – Cheryl Gelling with the help of Tracy Olson, and Board of Directors are Jim Friedt, Mike Gelling (appointed by President Sunny Pence to complete remainder of vacant position), Corey Gelling and Lee Olson.

Just a reminder that the Driftbusters will be hosting the 2012 convention, so we are going to need volunteers to help make this happen. Be prepared to say “yes” when asked to help on a committee or volunteer at the convention. It is never too early to start asking for and gathering donated items for the silent auction and/or door prizes. Let’s work together to make this another memorable convention for all of our SDSA friends.  The date of the SDSA Convention is November 9 & 10.

Thanks to everyone who helped out and attended the Pizza and Swim Party that was held Sunday, March 25. We apologize for miscommunication on when the Pizza was to be served and will strive to do better next year.

Discussion was held regarding a spring campout at either Wylie or the Brown County Fairgrounds for the weekend of May 18 & 19.  Please look for another e-mail regarding this event later this week.

The fall campout will be held at Wylie the weekend of September 14 & 15.  Mark your calendars now and call 626-3512 to make your reservation.  Explain that you are with the Aberdeen Driftbusters Group and that you need to place your name on one of the sites being held under that block.  More information will be coming.

Tony Schmitt, who is replacing Ryan Raynor as trails specialist, plans on attending our April meeting so he can meet everyone.

The next meeting is April 5 at 7 PM at the Pizza Ranch.  Thank you for allowing me to be your president this past year.  I pass the gavel on to Jeff Thorne, your elected president for the 2012-2013 season. Have a great summer. See you on trails next year!
