September 2014, News Letter

Hello Everyone,

Summer is winding down and fall is just around the corner. So it is time to start thinking about snowmobile season again. Let’s hope Mother Nature will be kinder to us this winter and provide us with enough snow for snowmobiling.

Our first snowmobile meeting is Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 at 7:30pm at the Pizza Ranch. We will have a lot of things to discuss for the coming season so please mark it on your calendars and plan on attending.

Our annual fall membership drive and campout is scheduled for Sept. 12 & 13 at the Wylie Park campground. If you haven’t reserved your campsite please contact Vicki at 605-626-7015 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm week days or call the Wylie Park campground at 605-626-3512 which is open until 10 pm every day. Be sure and tell them you want a site that is reserved for the Aberdeen Driftbusters. NO CAMPER REQUIRED—if you can’t join us for camping come take in the events you can during the weekend. Turkey and Talk around the Campfire with cooked turkeys served at 7 and 9 pm Friday night at the campground. Saturday is the potluck at 5:30 pm at the Meeting Room at the Wylie Registration Building with Go Karts from 7:30 to 9:30pm to follow for paid club members. Club will be providing roast beef sandwiches, drummies and beverages. Please bring a dish to pass.

Our snowmobile trail will follow the same route as last year. There will be some changes this year on how we mark the snowmobile trails. The decision has been made on the national and state level that all snowmobile trails in every state will be marked the same way. The big change for us will be doing away with the 3 chevrons that we have always used to mark things such as: bridges, railroad tracks, etc. We will now be marking these hazards with one turn arrow on each side and ahead of the turn arrow there will be a slow sign the same way we put a stop ahead sign before a stop sign. Tony Schmitt, our state trails specialist, will be coming to our Sept. or possibly Oct. meeting to explain the changes taking place and the reasons for doing it.

If anyone is interested in learning how to run the groomer please contact Jim Weaver, Ken Ham, or Jim Gelling and we will be glad to train you.

We still need some ideas on how to get new members to join our club. If we could get every member to sign up someone new it would be awesome. We challenge you to try.   Please bring a new member to our meeting Sept. 4 or our campout Sept 12-13 so we can sign them up.    We will be discussing the Halloween event, if you have ideas bring them along to the meeting or campout. Dan Rohrbach and Joey Nagel are planning on putting together a float for the gypsy day parade again this fall so anyone wanting to help please contact Dan or Joey.

Hope to see you at our meeting Sept. 4, 7:30pm at the Pizza Ranch and at the campout the following weekend on Sept. 12-13 at Wylie Park Campgrounds.
